Icy white and vibrant green in a translucent body
The carver shaped this ruyi jade pendant from natural Type A jadeite with a translucent body. Across the piece, an icy, near-colourless white forms the base tone. Meanwhile, vibrant green colour gathers in patches through the middle and along the curved edges. Furthermore, the two tones drift together as floating colour rather than in sharp lines. Because the jadeite runs translucent, light enters the stone through the icy areas. As a result, the green lifts from within rather than sitting flat on the surface. Therefore, the pendant reads as bright yet soft, quiet yet lively. Across the polished face, the surface holds a clean, bright lustre.
Ruyi head with carved flower bud details
The carver shaped the pendant into a classic ruyi (如意) form. Meanwhile, the top curls into the traditional ruyi head — a rounded shape drawn from cloud or lingzhi patterns. Below the head, the body of the pendant narrows through a graceful S-curve. Furthermore, small flower buds appear along the lower section, adding a soft, natural detail. Because jadeite is dense and fine-grained, the carver could draw fine lines through the buds and scrolls. A 18k white gold bail sits at the very top, so the pendant hangs cleanly on any chain. As a result, the whole ruyi jade pendant reads as compact yet detailed. Together, the ruyi head and the flower buds pair one big auspicious shape with small growing forms.
Meaning of the ruyi and flower bud
